THE call is going out once more for Basingstoke women to pull on their running shoes in support of Cancer Research UK.
Race for Life 2014 is now open for entries, and organisers are calling on women of all ages to take part in the 5k or 10k event.
Last year, 2,800 women took part in the town’s event, raising £184,615 for the charity, and it is hoped this year’s run will be equally successful.
Lea Blake, Cancer Research UK’s Basingstoke events manager, said: “We’re calling on Basingstoke’s mighty mums, gutsy grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.
“We know how committed Basing-stoke women can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks.”
The 5k and 10k events will be held at Down Grange Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 18. The race is non-competitive and women can run, jog, walk or even dance around the track, wearing running gear, plenty of pink or fancy dress.
Lea said: “It’s not about being fit or fast – most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun.
“Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also to remember those who have been lost to the disease. There are over 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
