Santa Sun Run to take place at Down Grange in aid of Sebastian's Action Trust
IT WILL be an unusual sight when people dressed as Santa race around Basingstoke playing fields this Sunday.
The event is being organised by Sebastian’s Action Trust, which runs The Bluebells, in North Waltham – a holiday home for seriously-ill children and their families.
The charity hopes people will support the second annual summer Santa Sun Run at Down Grange Sports Complex.
The event marks the first of many which are part of the trust’s Christmas in July campaign.
Participants taking part in the run will be able to run, walk or jog the 5km route.
Events co-ordinator Hannah Lambart said: “We were pleased to see so many people join us for our first summer Santa Sun Run last year and we hope to build upon that success.
“Last year we saw families come together, groups of friends, colleagues and individuals taking part. The popular thing about this event is that it appeals to all ages and all fitness levels.
“Although this day will be a great event, it also has a much deeper meaning.
“Sadly for many of our families a lot of children we support may not be able to celebrate Christmas in December.
“That’s why we have brought Santa on holiday and are encouraging as many people as possible to help us raise vital funds which will help the incredible children we support”.
Entry costs £10 for adults, £5 for children and under-fives can join in for free. All participants will be given a Santa hat on the day and are encouraged to wear red clothing.
Those who raise more than £150 will be entered into a prize raffle to win two month’s Premier Membership at Basingstoke Sports Centre, with the winner being announced on the day.
