IT’S a night out with a difference – and the annual Moonlight Walk is now open for registration.

The event will see hundreds of participants complete an 8.5-mile course around Basingstoke.

The fundraiser for St Michael’s Hospice will take place on September 6, and is billed as a girls’ night out, giving women the chance to spend time together, get fit, remember a loved one and raise money for the care of patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Last year, 220 walkers raised £15,000 for the hospice, in Aldermaston Road.

This year’s event will begin at Porchester Square, in Festival Place, at 10pm, before walkers head out to areas including Kempshott and Hatch Warren.

While the event is aimed at women, men and children are also able to take part.

Groups, clubs and companies are all encouraged to sign up as teams.

Registration opens at 8pm on the night, in Festival Place, before a warm-up is held at 9.45pm.

Iain Cameron, director of income generation at St Michael’s, said: “This is a unique opportunity for friends and family to get together and have fun while raising money for the hospice.

“Last year, we saw 220 people take part, raising £15,000 towards the hospice running costs to provide the vital and highly valued work we do.

“I appeal to all past participants, and those who have never entered, to join us in Festival Place on Saturday, September 6 and help us to raise even more money than last year.”

The entry fee is £16 for adults and £10 for children aged 11 to 17.

On the night, this will increase to £20 for adults and £12 for children.

Family tickets are available for £45, which includes two adults and two children.

The entry fee includes a breakfast bap and special Moonlight Walk medal at the finish line.
