TWO wellbeing projects in Basingstoke are set to benefit from a cash boost after Hampshire County Council agreed to support a host of projects across Hampshire.

The Hampshire District Health and Wellbeing Forum has agreed to use £103,000 of its Public Health grant allocation to award funds to a range of projects which help contribute towards the county’s four health and wellbeing objectives set out in Hampshire’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy – “Working together for a healthier Hampshire 2013 to 2018”.

The funding forms the final element of a two-year £1million grant agreed by the county council’s Cabinet in July 2013 to support district councils in their role in improving the health of Hampshire’s residents.

The local authority agreed to provide funding for breast-feeding drop-in sessions, and funding to do follow-up surveys one year on to assess the outcome for the potential of providing the service on a long-term basis.

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Hampshire County Council’s executive member for adult social care and public health, said: “Improving the health and wellbeing of Hampshire residents is a priority for the county council.

“The Joint Health and Well-being Strategy lays out clear objectives and these grants will target some of the key issues that have the potential to hamper good health and wellbeing.”

Cllr Fairhurst added: “All of the projects that were awarded funding had to demonstrate impact on improving wellbeing as well as sustainability for the future.”
