IT’S an epic charity challenge – and it’s set to be a real family affair.

Nicola Eady, along with her mum Carol Glaysher, 58, and stepdad Malcolm Glaysher, 61, are set to take on a trek of the Great Wall of China to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The trio have already smashed their fundraising target of £6,000 for the charity, but hope to raise even more before they fly out for the April trip.

Nicola, 25, from Eastrop, Basingstoke, said: “It will be challenging but at the moment I am excited about it. I will probably start getting nervous when we get to the airport. We should be averaging six hours of uphill walking every day.”

She said that her stepdad, from Oakley, had been in the Territorial Army for 30 years and this had influenced their decision to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The family have been training together since the summer and have now joined a gym to further improve their fitness.

They recently held a raffle at The Bakers Arms, in Basingstoke, where they raised an impressive £1,575.

Local and national businesses donated a wide variety of prizes for the raffle, including a Nintendo DS, a Christmas hamper and personal trainer sessions, and raffle tickets were sold at £1 each.

Nicola, who works for Virgin Media, in Hook, said: “People have been really generous and I want to say thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket or donated a prize. We hope to raise as much money as possible before the trip. It is a great cause.”
