A BASINGSTOKE teenager has died after he was hit by a train in Reading yesterday evening.
The British Transport Police were called to Reading West train station yesterday evening to reports of a person who had been struck by a train.
Officers from Thames Valley Police and a crew from South Central Ambulance Service were also called to the scene but the 19-year-old man from Basingstoke was pronounced dead at the scene.
Services between Reading and Newbury were temporarily suspended while emergency services worked at the scene.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to Reading West station at 7.40pm on Thursday, January 15, to reports of a person being struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service also attended and a 19-year-old man from Basingstoke was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family has been informed."
A file is now being prepared for the coroner.
No further details are known at this stage.
