HAMPSHIRE is the first county in England to create a transitional living strategy for people with autism.

This month, organisations and charities in the county are celebrating Autism Awareness Month and hoping to support more children as they grow up with the condition.

The Hampshire Autism Partnership launched its ‘across the lifespan’ strategy, which is supported by Hampshire County Council and aims to offer families and carers seamless advice and support as people with autism go from childhood to adults.

According to the council, Hampshire is the only county to offer this sort of service.

Cllr Liz Fairhurst said: “Continuity of care and support is extremely important for young people entering adulthood.

“The process of developing the lifespan approach for children, young people and adults has involved input from a wide range of people, working together to ensure that no one with autism feels isolated or alone.”

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how a person communicates and the board has produced a range or resources to support people with the condition and their families.
