THE fourth Basingstoke Festival is currently in full swing.

Hundreds of events will take place all over the borough until Sunday, July 12.

Here’s a closer look at just some of the events coming up in week three, between July 2 and 8:

Sherfest! - Sherfield Park Community Centre, Saturday, 12noon -8pm

Basingstoke Gazette: SHERFEST!

Family fun day including live music, inflatables, children’s games, art and crafts, BBQ, refreshments, beer tent, raffle, face painting and much more. Families are welcome to bring small gazebos, camp chairs or picnic blankets and make a day of it.

Dinosaur Diversity on the British Isles – Milestones, Saturday at 2pm

Talk by Dean Lomax giving an overview of the extraordinary dinosaur remains found around Britain. Followed by a Q&A. £5 per person.

Top Hat Sunday – Top of the Town

Some of the very best buskers compete for Top Hat prize money at ‘busk stops’. Drum Runners will be hosting Busk-IT at the bottom of Church Street, featuring a sneak preview of Basingstoke Live.

Acrobatic theatre company Mimbre will bring their show The Bench and performing arts students from Queen Mary’s College will create a show with Mimbre as well as presenting their own performance piece in Market Place.

Catch The Pop Tarts, see Andre Fidelio perform and watch out in case there’s a T-Rex lurking about near the Willis Museum...

Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society, Stars and Stripes - The Great Barn at Basing House, Sunday, 12 noon

Come and join the society on Sunday, July 5 from 12.30pm – 4.30pm for their summer picnic. Hear a fantastic selection of songs from the great American shows, including Chicago, Carousel, and a little taster from BAOS’s next show West Side Story.

Tickets priced £10 for adults and £7 for children are available from baos.ticketsource.co.uk. Under fives are admitted free of charge.

An Afternoon with Jane Austen - Willis Museum, Sunday, 2.30pm

Explore Jane Austen’s early life near Basingstoke and the influence it had on her novels. Enjoy a cream tea and a talk from Phil Howe from Hidden Britain Tours, followed by a screening of the 2007 film Becoming Jane.
