BASINGSTOKE MP Maria Miller has welcomed new figures which show that unemployment in Basingstoke has dropped again.

The figures show that unemployment has fallen by 11 people since May this year to 671 people in June, making it the lowest number of claimants for jobseeker’s allowance for 16 months.

Mrs Miller said: “This is great news for people who want to work hard and get on in Basingstoke – with wages rising at the fastest pace since 2007, and 1,251 fewer people relying on jobseeker’s allowance.

“That means more financial security for people in work, and more families with the security and stability of a regular pay packet – with good jobs being created by Basingstoke businesses.”
