POLICE are investigating a burglary in Basingstoke where a woman was knocked unconscious after a struggle with a burglar.

The incident took place at around 11.50pm on Tuesday, December 15 at a property in Mayflower Close, Chineham.

The 32-year-old victim was about to go to bed when she noticed a man breaking into the rear of the house.

She confronted him and during a brief struggle, she was pushed away, causing her to hit her head and lose consciousness.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A DVD player was taken from the address.

Detective Constable Tracy West, from Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a very rare event but it is concerning.

“This male was brazen enough to break into a house where the victim was still awake and locking up for the night.

“I would urge anyone who saw a man walking around Mayflower Close, Chineham, at this time to contact the police.

“As we approach Christmas, please be extra cautious around the home, ensuring doors and windows are locked up early in the evening.

“Keep valuables out of sight and consider deterrents such as motion-activated lights in rear gardens and locks on back gates.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC West at Basingstoke police station on 101, quoting 44150439698.
