A BASINGSTOKE school staged a special event to celebrate the success of former pupils.

A presentation evening was held at Brighton Hill Community School to salute the progress made by students during their time at the campus.

A school spokesman said: “Our 2015 Presentation Evening was a great success. It provided a wonderful opportunity for us, together with families, to formally celebrate the achievements and attainments of students who left Brighton Hill Community School following their exams last summer.

“I would like to congratulate our students, their teachers and support staff for all their hard work.

“Of course, this event was not just about performance in the classroom, sports field and exam hall. We also celebrated students’ superb personal achievements including those who have shown great courage in challenging circumstances.

“I am extremely proud of our students and the achievements we celebrate during these events provide an aspirational target for many.”

The guest of honour was Cllr Jane Frankum, county councillor for Basingstoke North and the town’s deputy mayor.

The spokesman added: “We were also treated to a superb musical performance by our outgoing head girl, Kumuthu Amaradasa, and the evening was rounded off with a buffet.

“This tribute to the achievements of our students is an important occasion in our school calendar.”

Cllr Frankum added: “I was very impressed with the students – they’re community minded and proud of their school.

“One of the students at the presentation evening won loads of awards and also played a piece of music. Seeing such talent was the highlight of the evening.”

Earlier this year this year the school was praised in its latest Ofsted report, which described the behaviour and safety of pupils as good.

The report added: “School leaders worked hard to improve the quality of teaching since the previous inspection."

“The highly effective governing body has a very accurate understanding of the strengths of the school and what needs to improve further.

“Students a courteous and polite. The feel safe and support each other.

“Teachers give clear advice about how work can be improved and students are given opportunities in class to act upon this advice.”
