TADLEY town councillors have paid tribute to a “special lady” who would do anything for her community.

Valerie Frost, who had served on the town council since July 2002, died last Sunday aged 77.

During her time as a councillor she served on the highways and planning committee and was renowned for taking an interest in planning applications and proposed developments.

Chairman of the town council, Cllr David Leeks, said: “She knew most of the people of Tadley and if you ever had an issue you could ask Valerie and she would know the answer, or at least point you in the right direction.

“She was a wonderful lady who loved to serve her town.

“The only thing you can say about her is that she was a great councillor.”

Mrs Frost also volunteered as an administration clerk at the Ambrose Allen Centre, in Franklin Avenue, for many years, taking room bookings and managing the maintenance of the building.

Having previously worked for the Ministry of Defence at Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), in Aldermaston Road, she served on its local liaison committee for a number of years.

Mrs Frost stepped down as Tadley South ward councillor in May 2015, due to ill health, but made a lasting impact on her colleagues.

Cllr Sue Mullan called Mrs Frost an “incredible and special lady” who will be missed by the whole town.

Cllr Mullan said: “She had that rarest of qualities these days of taking the time out and listen to people.

“She was always very open and welcoming and I really admired that in her, she really was a special lady.”

Family, friends as well as councillors are going to be celebrating the life of Mrs Frost at St Paul’s Church, in The Green on Thursday, March 3 at 12.30pm.
