A WOMAN was seriously injured after a plane crashed during take-off at a public charity event.

The Tiger Moth biplane crashed into the vehicle at around 2.45pm yesterday at Brimpton Airfield, on the Wasing Estate, in Aldermaston, and the woman was injured by flying debris from the propeller.

She was taken by air ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The two pilots of the aircraft were not injured in the incident.

Around 150 people were at the event, organised by Brimpton Flying Club, to raise money for Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

A crew from Tadley Fire Station was called to the incident, to help colleagues from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the incident at 2.45pm.

A spokeswoman said: "There were no persons trapped. We had pumps attend from Newbury, Whitley Wood, a multi-role from Maidenhead and two from Hampshire.

"When we attended the passengers were out of the aircraft so we supported the scene and removed the wreckage."
