A MAJOR North Hampshire road has reopened this evening after being closed throughout the day following an incident with an overturned lorry.

Both carriageways of the A34 reopened shortly after 6pm on Sunday 10 July after a day of recovery work following the incident, which took place near Whitchurch at around 9am.

The lorry overturned on the southbound carriageway this morning, but traffic officers were forced to close the road in both directions during the recovery process.

The northbound carriageway was reopened around 4pm.

During the recovery process vehicles were directed through Andover via the A343, causing traffic problems throughout the town.

Congestion also built up on the eastbound carriageway of the A303 near to the junction with the A34.

All roads are now cleared.
