A 15-YEAR-OLD girl from Hampshire was today sentenced at Winchester Crown Court to an extended sentence of detention for a period of 14 years.
The sentence is comprised of a custodial term of 10 years and an extension period of 4 years, for the attempted murder of a school friend on the 25 April 2016.
The girl cannot be named for legal reasons.
Following the sentencing Bernadette Kearney, Senior Crown Prosecutor for Wessex said: “This was a planned attack on the 14 year old friend of the defendant at her school.
“The defendant was unanimously convicted of attempt murder after a seven day trial.
"She had earlier pleaded guilty to being in possession of a bladed article on school premises.
"She had also pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding but this plea was rejected by the prosecution.
“The victim very bravely gave evidence at the trial which was very difficult for her.
"This is an extremely tragic case and the incident has had a most profound and traumatic effect on the victim and her family”.
