A TOWN centre will be turned in to a giant, live mystery game this weekend.

Basingstoke will become the latest town to become a life-size game board on Saturday, July 15, with the hosting of Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters.

The event invites players to take on the role a detective, following clues, questioning witnesses and solving puzzles around Basingstoke's landmarks to solve a mystery.

Karen Wild, Basingstoke Together chief executive, said: “Finding fun and different ways to spend the day with friends and family can be a challenge. That’s why we’re so pleased to bring this event to Basingstoke. Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters makes a real change from mooching around the shops or sitting in the cinema, although there’s nothing to stop you from taking a break from sleuthing and enjoying the local amenities too.

"I can’t wait to see Basingstoke transformed into a life-sized “whodunit”, and it’s been a fantastic opportunity for local actors and volunteers to get involved."

The game starts in the centre of town and runs from 10am with the final detectives going out at 12pm.

It takes two to three hours to complete, there is no time limit thought the final location closes at 4pm and there will be a maximum of 500 adult players to avoid crowding.

Organisers are recommending enjoying the game in teams of sizes of two to six people and a children's mini-mystery game will also be running concurrently.

Stephen Blackwell, who devised the game, said: "The aim is to genuinely replicate the feel of a real investigation and the best way to do that was to make the most of real locations.

"Working with a number of businesses throughout the town/city centre, we’ve been able to create an excitingly immersive experience for our players."

Free Wi-Fi will be available throughout Basingstoke on the day of the event to help make the game run smoother.
