TREMORS have reportedly been felt in Hampshire as the country experienced an 'earthquake' this afternoon.

Independent scientific organisation EMSC reports tremors were felt by people across north Hampshire while social media users reported feeling tremors in Basingstoke.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) has confirmed a tremor in the south west of England and south Wales occured at 2.31pm.

BGS has reported it to have been a magnitude 4.4 earthquake with an epicentre of 20km north/ north-west of Swansea.

However, Twitter users reported feeling the tremor in Basingstoke.


And commenters on The Gazette's Facebook page reported feeling tremors in Bramley and Chineham.

The BGS has said earthquakes if this magnitude only occur in the UK once every three to five years.
