AFTER an ‘effortless’ performance on a new BBC talent competition, a Basingstoke singer has one more stage to pass to win a £50,000 top prize.

Jodie Steele wowed judged on the new BBC One singing contest All Together Now with her rendition of the classic I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston.

The 26-year-old will sing once again in front of the 100 hundred judges tonight.

Having starred in the West End in Fame and Legally Blonde, but most recognised for playing Elphaba in the smash hit international tour of Wicked, it would seem Jodie was used to the big stage.

“Oh no I was an absolute nervous wreck,” she told The Gazette.

“I was hanging around for hours, having done my hair and make-up so I was trying to calm myself down but the day just kept going so I was just waiting around in anticipation.”

The singer/ song writer managed to impress 97 of the 100 judges on the show hosted by comedian Rob Beckett, with chief judge Geri Horner.

After getting such a reaction Jodie’s performance was described as “effortless and cute”.

However, she said that the whole experience was a bit of a blur.

She added: “When I was singing I wasn’t really aware that everyone was standing up, I was just focused on the song.

“I was really worried because I didn’t feel that confident in going into the sing off, but when I saw all the judges standing up I was like ‘Oh my god’.”

The idea of the show sees a range of talented performers take to the stage to perform in front of The 100 - a panel of music experts and singers from all over the UK.

Each act performs for The 100, willing them to vote with their voices, and stand up and join in. The greater the number that stand up and sing along, the higher the act’s score.

If any of The 100 like what they hear, they can stand up, join in and sing along.

Jodie will compete in the grand final of All Together Now which will be shown in the evening on BBC One tonight,.
