QUEUES of enthusiasts were waiting for the opportunity to buy a unique piece of art on Saturday.
A selection of postcards designed by a variety of artists were up for grabs at the Proteus Creation Space as part of the Secret Art exhibition.
The works had been displayed in the Willis Museum and the Proteus Creation Space during the project which had been running in Basingstoke since July 23.
The idea was that every single piece of art was the same size and the same price, but the identity of the artist was a secret until after purchase.
All the proceeds taken from the sale would go towards the running of the Brookvale breastfeeding counselling drop-in service (NCT B.A.B.I.E.S - Basings and Breastfeeding; Information, Encouragement, Support), with more than £8,000 raised
Lindsey Lawman, who organised the event for the Basingstoke branch of the NCT, said: “The sale was absolutely frantic when we opened the doors, it was like a black Friday sale.”
The remaining cards will be on sale at the Proteus Creation Space for a few more weeks.
