THE Moon landings were remembered by Basingstoke pupils with the launch of compressed air rockets.
More than 260 Year 8 students of Brighton Hill Community College, in Brighton Way, Basingstoke, built rockets and launched them using a compressed air unit.
The event was to encourage the children to get involved with technology and was organised with the help of Starchaser Industries, a company that specialises in the development, operation and commercialisation of space-related products and services.
The height each rocket reached was measured. The highest was 78 metres.
Technology teacher Terry Heasman said the day had been a great success.
He added: “The pupils really engaged in the subject and it was great to see them really getting stuck in.
“It was to teach them about aerodynamics and also as a way of commemorating the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing.
“They were shown a presentation about the moon landing and although the pupils made a rocket each, they also worked together and they did that really well.”
