NORTH West Hampshire MP Sir George Young has been appointed by The Queen to the Order of the Companions of Honour.
The award recognises the 71-year-old MP’s 38 years in Parliament.
He was recommended by Prime Minister David Cameron following the Cabinet reshuffle earlier this month, which saw Sir George leave his post as Leader of the House of Commons.
A statement from Number 10 said: “The Prime Minister requested the honour be granted, following the recent Government reshuffle, in recognition of Sir George Young’s long-standing public service to the country.”
Sir George first entered parliament as MP for Ealing Acton in 1974, before standing as North West Hampshire MP, which includes Oakley, Overton, Tadley and Whit-church in 1997.
The Order of the Compan-ions of Honour was introduced in 1917 by King George V, and gives recipients the right to use letters “CH” after their names.
