A WOMAN received serious leg and arm injuries after a smash on the A339.

The 38-year-old woman was travelling northbound on the Basingstoke to Newbury road in her Ford Ka when she was in collision with a grey Volkswagen Jetta travelling in the other direction at about 7.40pm yesterday.

A maroon Toyota Avensis, also travelling north, was in collision with the back of the Ka near Pitt Hall Farm, Kingsclere.

Basingstoke firefighters had to cut the Ka driver, who is from Thatcham, free from her car.

She was taken to Basingstoke hospital with serious leg and arm injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 24-year-old man from Newbury, suffered a broken ankle and was also taken to Basingstoke hospital, while the driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old man from Headley, was uninjured.

Motorists were delayed while the road was closed for two-and-a-half hours to allow for recovery and investigation of the scene.

Pc Paul Blum, from Farnborough Roads Policing Unit, said: "We have already spoken to a number of witnesses about this collision, but I am keen to also hear from anyone who may have seen any of the vehicles prior to it."

Anyone with information should contact Pc Blum, on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
