Delays ahead for 16 weeks
10:26am Friday 11th January 2013 in Romsey
MOTORISTS’ are warned to expect delays while engineers work on a £750,000 scheme to install traffic lights at a major road junction in Romsey.
Work started on Monday to install the lights and widen the junction of Cupernham Lane with Winchester Hill at Cupernham.
A signed diversion has been put in place while the work is carried out. And Hampshire’s highway chiefs expect the work, which includes putting in three lanes on the A3090 (Winchester Hill) between Romsey Hospital and the Cupernham Lane junction, to last up to 16 weeks.
An uncontrolled pedestrian crossing will also be installed on Winchester Hill.
Hampshire’s cabinet spokesman for the environment and transport Mel Kendal said: “We recognise that any roadworks can be frustrating for motorists and others but the road diversions will be clearly signed and managed and we ask people to be patient while the work is under way.”
