Choir in Elgar country
9:00am Saturday 31st August 2013 in Romsey
Worcester Cathedral was the destination for Romsey Abbey Choir over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Directed by Robert Fielding, they sang at five services, earning many compliments from the clergy and congregation.
The music they sang spanned over 500 years – and included music by Mr Fielding himself.
With Worcestershire being closely associated with Sir Edward Elgar, the choir sang one of his pieces on the Sunday morning.
The week was especially memorable for choristers, James Garland and Joshua Hillier, who sang solos.
As a token of their appreciation, the cathedral clergy presented the choir with a framed, facsimile print of a page from one of the priceless medieval musical manuscripts in the cathedral’s library.
It wasn’t all hard work for the choristers, who enjoyed a day out on the Severn Valley Railway, played laser quest and competed in go-kart races.
The choir currently has vacancies for boys aged seven and upwards this term. If your son would benefit from opportunities like this, please phone Robert Fielding on 0787 944 3060.
By coincidence, today (Saturday, August 31), the Girl Choristers and Lay Clerks of Worcester Cathedral are visiting the Abbey to sing Choral Evensong. The service starts at 5.30pm.
