Aquatic centre opens after floods
12:07pm Tuesday 25th February 2014 in Romsey
A FLOODED Romsey-based aquatic centre is set to reopen today (Wednesday) after being submerged in water for nearly three weeks.
Romsey World of Water was hit by severe flooding on February 7 when the Fishlake Stream burst its banks at Greatbridge inundating the centre's car park and a large section of its sales area with water.
Some of the fish from the lake at the Greatbridge Road site escaped and were later discovered in roads near Romsey Industrial Estate.
Staff were placed on reduced hours while the business was closed.
James Dwyer from Romsey World of Water said: “For the last two weeks our site has been three feet underwater. This meant that for the first time in our 40 year history we have had to have an unplanned closure. Now, the water level has dropped, the roads reopened, we are able to trade again.”
Mr Dwyer said that a Tropical event that was planned for this month that had to cancelled because of the flooding will now be held on Saturday March 15 and Sunday March 16.
“We will be running some extra special promotions to say thanks to everyone that has supported us for the last few weeks,” concluded Mr Dwyer, who advised people to log-on to the Romsey of World of Water Facebook page to discover more.
