TEST Valley charities will benefit from a Songs of Praise event at Romsey Abbey next month.
“It will be exactly the same as everything that people see on the BBC Songs of Praise programme but with no cameras,” said co-organiser Angie Nelson of Romsey’s Oasis bookshop.
Regular programme presenter Pam Rhodes will compere the event on Sunday, March 16 at 6pm and all the hymns will be selected by members of the community.
Test Valley Borough mayor Janet Whiteley and Romsey’s vicar, the Rev Tim Sledge have organised the event with Angie.
Proceeds from a retiring collection will be split between Romsey Abbey and charities in the Test Valley.
These include the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Romsey Good Neighbours, Jane Scarth House, Andover Life After Stoke Club and Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

Prior to the Abbey event Pam will be signing copies of her new book Casting the Net – The Dunbridge Chronicles (a fictitious Dunbridge, not the Test Valley’s) her second novel about a small English country town.
The book signing will take place at Oasis between 4.45pm and 5.45pm.
