Sketching the spirit of the town
Updated 8:39am Wednesday 9th July 2014 in Romsey
The new “Sketches of Romsey Exhibition” was launched last week at community gallery Rums Eg with a private view at which the winners of the children’s and adult competition were announced.
The entries are the work of professional and amateur artists and were inspired by the people and places of Romsey and surrounding countryside.
The exhibition is the culmination of the community project, funded by Romsey Decorative and Fine Art Society, which has seen adults and children of all ages attending workshops in Rums Eg’s Leckford Studio and taking to the streets of Romsey to find inspiration for their works.
Prizes were presented to the winners by Romsey Mayor, Councillor Peter Hurst. First prize of £100, provided by Test Valley Arts Foundation, went to Ruth Ann Lewis for her ‘Ducks In The Park’.
The children’s categories were won by Jack Need (3-7 years), Poppy Hoyle ( 8-11 years) and Joao Teixeira (12-17 years).
The exhibition runs until July 27, in the café on the first floor of the gallery in Bell Street.
