Still time to enter carnival procession

OFFICIALS are making final preparations for Sunday’s Romsey Carnival procession.

A big turnout is expected for the parade which will be led by Romsey Old Cadets Carnival Show and members dressed in their pink pig costumes.

Romsey carnival queen Georgia Fernley and her attendants Lucie-Ann Holloway and Ella Little will be in the procession and they are expected to give some “royal waves” to the crowds.

The oranisers say it is still not too late to enter floats and pedestrian exhibits into the show which starts from Romsey Industrial Estate at Greatbridge at 3pm.

Entries will still be accepted on the day. Judging starts at 2pm.

The route of the procession includes Fishlake Meadows Road, Greatbridge Road, Station Road, Latimer Street, The Hundred, Palmerston Street, Broadwater Road, Bell Street and the Market Place.

While people are waiting for the procession to arrive in the Market Place and Hundred, the Casa De Samba band will be entertaining carnival revellers and Romsey Old Cadets will be performing in the Market Place when the procession finishes.

Bell Street, Church Street, The Hundred and Latimer Street will remain closed until the carnival festivities conclude but all other streets will be covered by rolling road closures and reopen as soon as the parade passes.

Peter Lomer from the carnival committee warned motorists to expect delays during the event and he had this advice.

“Diversion signs will be placed so that traffic from the north will be diverted around Romsey.

If you do get held up by the procession, please be patient as will attempt to re-open the roads as quickly as we can,” said Mr Lomer who urged people to put money in charity collection buckets along the parade route.

All money raised goes to Romsey-based charities.
