Top brass at Romsey Show

First published in Romsey

Romsey Show will be welcoming representatives from the American Embassy and the Canadian and Australian High Commissions to this year’s specially themed First World War event to reflect their countries’ involvement in the conflict and their special links with Romsey.

The representatives will be remembering the troops from their countries who were stationed at Broadlands, or in the wider Romsey area, between 1914 and 1918, together with the 374 Romsey men who died during the conflict.

The trio includes Captain David Stracener, naval attaché at the American Embassy, in London, representing the American ambassador; Lieutenant-Colonel Jean Trudel, the assistant army adviser at the Canadian Defence Liaison Staff, representing the Canadian High Commissioner and Lieutenant Colonel Michael Buldo, assistant defence adviser (Joint Capability and Support) who is based at Australia House, in London, representing the Australian High Commissioner.

Lt Col Buldo has previously served with the Light Horse in Australia, so his presence is particularly appropriate at a show that will be recalling Broadlands’ wartime role as the site of a major remount camp training horses for battle.

Romsey Show takes place at Broadlands on Saturday, September 13 Children under 11 go free and there is a reduced price for 11 to 18 year olds. Tickets are available on the day or in advance with savings of up to 25 per cent. Visit romseyshow.co.uk for details.
