WORKMEN are battling to repair a burst water main at Mottisfont.

Huge volumes of water from the fractured pipeline have been running down Hatt Hill in the village since early this morning (Tuesday November 4).

A Southern Water team is currently working on repairing the 6inch main on the B3084 between the River Dun and Mottisfont Village Hall.

Part of the road surface was lifted by the pressure of the water which was gushing out in two separate places.

A Southern Water spokesperson said at 3.30pm today that around 70 homes in the Mottisfont area may lose their tap water supplies temporary during the next hours or so.

“We'd like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and can assure customers we'll work as quickly as we can to complete the repair and restore supplies,” said a Southern Water spokesperson.

It's the second major burst in the area within the last few weeks. Last month homes in the same area of Mottisfont lost their water supplies when a mains burst in Lockerley Road in neighbouring Dunbridge.
