In recent weeks we have reported on the row over the location of affordable housing in Broughton wich has split the village.

We received the following from Affordable Housing for Broughton with diagrams.

SIR: May I correct two points on your otherwise very informative and balanced article headed ”Village homes row will be decided at the ballot box”?

Firstly, it is not the case that our group, Affordable Housing for Broughton, attempted “to bring down the parish council” at their October meeting. We simply did not exist at that time!

We were formed shortly after that by a group of residents who were so shocked and bewildered by the council’s decision at that meeting that we felt we had to do something. We were dismayed that the council did not take time to carefully consider the views expressed in the survey they themselves had commissioned before backing the Hinwood proposal.

Secondly, as the schematic diagram that we have produced demonstrates, there is ample room on the Cemetery Field to build the nine or 10 affordable homes recommended for Broughton by the Rural Housing Department of Test Valley Borough Council.
