TWO young apprentice hairdressers who work in Romsey have proven to be a cut above the rest by claiming first and second place in a prestigious competition.

Lauren Hoile and Millie Jones, who both work at Trevor Mitchell in Romsey, were the cream of the crop at the South of England Hairdressing Championships held at the De Vere Hotel in Southampton.

The pair, both 17, impressed the judges in the men’s fashion category, Lauren took home first place with a score of 89 out of 100 with Millie just a one point behind.

Overseeing them for the competition is director of the Market Place salon, Nick Martin who also doubles up as a competition trainer.

He said: “They did really well to beat some of the older more experienced competitors. It is a really difficult job and that is why they have to practise so much.

“They are probably the best two hairdressers I have had for a long time.”

Lauren, who lives in North Baddesley, said: “I feel really proud. I was surprised I did so well, I am looking forward to taking part in a competition again.”
