Taster sessions are being held at The Rapids in Romsey to help people who are ill or have mobility problems to move more and feel better.

Liz Murray, community development manager at Valley Leisure, said: “We hope to encourage local people their families, friends and carers to come along and find out more about the importance of moving more to improve strength, balance and mobility, which can help to increase independence and quality of life.”

There will also be “Later Life MOTs”, which will look at what are the best types of activities or exercises for people to do, and representatives from Boots Pharmacy will be on hand with medical advice too. There will be free tea, coffee and cakes.

The sessions are on from 1pm to 4pm on Thursday.

The ‘move more’ event has been jointly organised by Valley Leisure and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Other organisations are also involved and will be on hand to give their help and support on the day. This includes Hampshire County Council, the community care team and the community Independence team. Transport can also be arranged through Neighbourcare on 01264 339899 or Test Valley Community Transport on 01264 356808.
