PLANS to build a further 300 homes in the Hampshire countryside have been announced.

Next week villagers at North Baddesley near Romsey will get their first glimpse of what the scheme at Hoe Lane in the community will look like.

The Ashfield Partnership is behind the proposals, which will be submitted to Test Valley planners later this year.

The scheme is on farmland on the outskirts of North Baddesley along Hoe Lane, which links the village with the A3057 at Ashfield.

The developers are currently seeking advice on the design of the project from Prince Charles’ charity, the Prince’s Foundation for Building Communities, which is aimed at championing sustainable community-building around the globe.

Regional house builders C. G Fry and Sons, Morrish Builders and Wyatt Homes will put up the proposed 300-home development.

There will be a mixture of apartments, terraced, semi-detached and detached properties along with homes in the affordable category.

Bosses at the Ashfield Partnership say up to 40 per cent of the proposed development will be affordable homes and the plans will enable would-be residents easy access to existing facilities in North Baddesley.

The plans include enhancing woodland on the eastern edge of the site as well as providing 20 hectares of dedicated open green space to the north-west of the development.

They also say the proposed site which is surrounded on two sides by woodland has been identified for development in Test Valley’s latest Local Plan.

The farm courtyard has the potential to provide a farm shop, offices and workshops on site. The proposals also include enhancement of the woodland on the eastern edge of the site and the additional provision of 20 hectares of dedicated open green to the north-west of the proposed development. Allotments are also planned south of Hoe Lane along with a farm shop, offices and workshops.

A spokesman for the Ashfield Partnership said: “We look forward to meeting local people at the exhibition. The scheme is in outline form at this stage and builds on the proposals developed at the 2008 Enquiry by Design at which people from North Baddesley worked together with the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community for five days to draw up plans. It will be interesting to see what the community make of the proposals and whether there are any priorities or benefits which rank highly or things that local people think should be included. We are determined that this will be a high quality scheme that will add to the North Baddesley community. Local opinions will be important in achieving this aim.”

North Baddesley’s county councillor Alan Dowden, added: “I still believe this proposed development is in an unsustainable location, no matter how they try to dress it up."There is no doubt about that. I know the residents are still very much opposed to it.”

The plans will be on show on Monday at North Baddesley Sports Pavilion off Botley Road in the village between 2pm and 7.30pm.
