POLICE have launched a manhunt after a convict went on the run in Hampshire.

Darren Sharpe, 49, has convictions for assault and aggravated burglary and is subject to licence conditions after being released from prison in May.

Anyone who has seen him is warned not to approach him but to call police straight away.

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, Sharpe was jailed in 2006 after breaking into his ex-wife’s house and stabbing her new partner in the neck with a barbecue fork.

Sharpe claimed he drank a quarter bottle of vodka and had been provoked by the victim shortly before the attack.

He then went into the room where the couple were asleep and attacked the man with the fork, causing a puncture wound.

Sharpe then kept punching him and escaped through a window before being arrested.

He has links to the Fareham and Southampton areas and officers are conducting their own enquiries as well as appealing to members of the public for assistance.

Police say he is white, about five feet eight inches tall, and has grey cropped hair, and say that anyone assisting or harbouring Sharpe may be committing an offence and could be prosecuted.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hampshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 44150381332 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
