RESTRICTIONS are being considered to tackle parking concerns raised by residents on a Hampshire estate.

Proposals are being put before those living in Valley Park who want a solution to problems with roads being used as overflow parking by commuters for local employment and parents on the school run.

Residents and the police have highlighted the issue to both Test Valley Borough Council and Eastleigh Borough Council.

In response, Test Valley Borough Council has come up with a series of measures to address it.

Test Valley Borough Council hope the proposals will tackle safety issues with motorists trying to park or turn, parking by commuters mainly associated with the Hampshire Corporate Park, Chandler’s Ford industrial estate and Southampton and parking around two schools in Valley Park.

It hopes the measures will also encourage cycling between Chandler’s and Southampton, Chandler’s Ford and North Baddesley and to and from the industrial estate.

Early last year Test Valley Borough Council put in road markings in Castle Lane, Calshot Drive and Donnington Drive to tackle the issue.

But further plans are now being put before residents.

These include short term parking restrictions to one hour Monday to Friday, from 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm and no waiting at any time signs in other areas.

The council would also prevent U turns at the junction of Templars Way and Montgomery Way, a No Waiting at any Time restriction at road and cycleway junctions and at areas with limited visibility in front.

Further measures include extending parking restrictions near the schools and legalising use of the existing footways as cycleways between residential and employment areas.

If approved, they could be in place by March next year.

Residents can inspect the plans at an exhibition at the Community Centre, in Chilworth Old Village today, 6pm to 8pm.

Consultation ends on December 11.
