HAMPSHIRE faces heavy winds today as Storm Frank sweeps across the country.

A large tree has fallen down at Greenhill Lane in Rownhams and is currently blocking the road.

And another tree which has come down in the heavy winds is currently lying across Silk Mill Lane in Overton.

Gusts of up to 45mph will batter the South with spells of rain expected later today.

Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to bear the brunt but there are 131 flood warnings and alerts in place across the UK.

Hampshire is expected to escape the worst of it but will face strong winds and rain today, although the temperature will be 13°C, mild for the time of year.

Flood alerts are currently in place for the east Dorset coast.

HM Coastguard are urging people to take care in the storm, with commander Mark Rodaway saying: "Our advice to people remains the same. Check the weather and tidal conditions before you set out so you can prepare your vessel accordingly or even ask yourself whether you should be going out at all.

"At sea, changes in tidal streams could make conditions worse, particularly if the wind and tide are against each other, but above all, don’t take risks when a storm at sea is involved.

"We’ve all seen the dramatic pictures of flooding inland and seen from previous years, some equally dramatic images from coastal storms.

"Do not be tempted to go out and take those photographs yourself. No photograph or selfie is worth risking your life for.

"However, as always, if you do see someone in trouble or are in trouble yourself, then call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
