A CHOIR is celebrating success at a Hampshire music festival.
Romsey Male Voice Choir hit the right note at Southampton Music Festival, with members' performance earning a distinction and a cup.
Led by Musical Director Marion Maxey, the 60-strong group, which performs at local venues regularly, sang five pieces from its repertoire, including Chattanooga Choo Choo, the Welsh Prayer, written specifically for Prince Charles 65th birthday, and Unchained Melody.
They were judged by Neil Jenkins, an internationally known tenor, conductor and music editor.
Choir Chairman Geoff Skinner said: “We’ve always had great feedback from audiences at concerts, but having Neil Jenkins so positively scrutinising the way we performed was a real privilege and boost to our morale.
"Romsey Male Voice Choir’s ethos is ‘good enough is never good enough’ so although we’re giving ourselves a bit of a pat on the back today, never complacent we’ll also keep working at getting better and better.”
The choir's next concert is at the Methodist Church in Chandler's Ford next Saturday at 7.30pm in aid of Wessex Cancer Trust and Action for Children.
