A TEENAGER has been charged after a Hampshire model was left fighting for her life after a car accident.

Faye Townsend spent weeks in hospital after she suffered a head injury while walking through West Wellow, near Romsey.

In the weeks after the incident, friends and family of the 23-year-old model gathered round her bedside at Southampton General Hospital.

The accident in Tutts Lane left the model and dancer in a coma with severe head injuries.

It happened as she was walking towards Groves Down on December 1 at about 1.45pm.

During the investigation, police said they spoke to more than 100 motorists.

Yesterday police revealed that Chantelle Matthews, of Camilla Close, Totton, has been charged with GBH with intent.

The 18-year-old is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 28.

Faye was eventually able to return home at Christmas and spend the festive period recovering at home with her family.

She posted on her Facebook page: “I am alive” –- a statement that attracted hundreds of likes from friends, family and well-wishers.

One friend, Chelsea Philps, said: “I’m so happy you’re home, you’re a fighter.”

Hannah Cozens said: “So happy, you never gave up fighting! Xx.”

During her stay in hospital friends took to social media to wish her a speedy recovery using the hashtag #prayforfaye.

Faye has her own website and previously described herself as “positive and determined” and keen to work hard.

She wrote: “I find it all so exciting, so I’m very enthusiastic. I’m determined to work hard and push myself to the highest limits to ensure the job is done amazingly.”

Speaking days after the incident, Angela Ratcliffe, chairman of Wellow Parish Council, said: “I’ve seen Faye in the local shop and when I went in there the other day everyone was talking about it.”
