HUNDREDS of runners pounded the pavements for the promise of a pint at a popular Hampshire fun run.
A record-breaking 400 people took to their marks for a sweltering Romsey five mile Beer Race
The sell-out event attracted running clubs and fitness fanatics from across the South and participants arrived at the start line in Dummers Road, Braishfield, in glorious sunshine.
The runners tackled the five mile course around the village before crossing the finish line outside Braishfield Village Hall to be rewarded by a beer and cake afterwards.
Dad-of-three, Paul Pallister, 44, crossed the line first in 29 minutes and was greeted by children Luke, six, and twins Jana and Maja, both two.
Gemma Boyle, 32, from Netley Abbey, ran the course pushing a double buggy containing children Bo, four, and Bea, two and said: "It was a good run but it is quite hilly which is bad with a buggy. Now I need cake and a beer."
