POLICE are urging residents to be vigilant after a series of scam telephone calls.

Several homes in the Test Valley area have been targeted by scammers claiming to be HM Revenue and Customs.

The caller, who gives the name Heather Grey, has been stating a court case has been raised against the resident due to unpaid tax and warns them they could face five years in prison. They say if the owed money is not paid straight away the resident’s driving licence will be seized and their bank accounts will be frozen.

But Hampshire Constabulary says it is a scam and they are urging people never to give out any personal details to anyone over the phone.

Anyone who believes they have received a scam phone call can report it by contacting the national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, Action Fraud on 0300 123 20 40 or actionfraud.police.uk.
