HUNDREDS of walkers put their best foot forward to support one of Hampshire’s most successful fundraising events.

Once again the annual Walk the Test Way attracted a huge number of people determined to raise vital funds for their chosen charity.

Walkers could chose one of five routes – the longest being more than 25 miles.

They registered at the Crosfield Hall in Romsey and were then taken by bus to their various starting points, which included Mottisfont, Stockbridge and St Mary Bourne.

After being dropped off they faced the long trek back to the finish at Romsey Memorial Park.

The event was organised by Romsey Test Rotary Club. Toilets were provided and the St John Ambulance Brigade was on hand to help anyone who needed medical help.

The route included part of the old Spratt and Winkle railway line, thought to have been named after the seafood that was taken by train from Southampton to Andover.

The line closed in the 1960s and the route between Chilbolton and Kimbridge was turned into a long-distance footpath.

Walk the Test Way has been held each year for more than a decade and has raised more than £500,000 for charity.

Last year’s event netted £80,000 and organisers are hoping this year’s walk will prove even more successful.
