POLICE have issued guidelines for dog owners after two sheep were attacked and killed.

On Wednesday there were reports made that a sheep had died in a field off London Road in Whitchurch, following a similar incident in the same area five days previously.

The attacks are offences contrary to protection of livestock rules and officers are making owners aware of guidelines.

The advice is to:

  • Keep your dog in sight at all times
  • Ensure your dog does not stray into areas which you have no right to access
  • Make sure dogs are kept on a lead when near livestock

PC Vincent Lane, of Hampshire Constabulary’s Country Watch team, said: “Such incidents are entirely preventable and whilst I would never discourage dog owners from enjoying the countryside, I would ask that dog owners follow best practice while walking in the countryside to prevent any further unnecessary suffering and loss.”

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call 101 quoting 44160479802.
