POLICE have arrested a man after a woman was attacked with a crowbar during a burglary at her home.

The 39-year-old victim was left lying unconscious with a fractured skull after a burglar hit her over the head with a ‘crowbar-type implement’.

She was rushed to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

As previously reported, two men broke into a property off the A36 Salisbury Road in West Wellow, between 4am and 5am on June 23.

The men fled in a burgundy 4x4-type vehicle, which police think may have been used in a number of burglaries in the area, after being confronted by the victim’s partner.

A 42-year-old man from Marchwood was arrested in connection with the burglary, and has since been released from custody under investigation.

Officers have also released an E-fit image of a man they want to identify in a bid to find the burglars, who have been described as white, in their 20s and both wore hooded tops. One of the men was described as being around 6ft tall, and the other of skinny build.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the burglary, saw the vehicle or saw the men in the area acting suspiciously to call 101 quoting reference '44170238827', or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
