HUNDREDS of mourners are expected at a Hampshire market town today to say goodbye to a popular friend.

Joe Wells passed away on October 17, aged 75, and more than 500 people are due to attend his funeral at Romsey Abbey this afternoon from 2pm.

They will then travel on to Woodley Cemetery for a 3pm internment.

A tribute from his family said: “A much loved dad and grandad who will be sadly missed by all his family.”

As a result, locals are warned to expect traffic in the town from as early as midday, with car parks also expected to be near to capacity.

A tweet from Romsey Town Council warned: “Due to expect large numbers of mourners at a funeral service #Romsey Abbey at 2pm TODAY traffic will be heavy & carparks busy #extratime.”
