A HAMPSHIRE gym has been upgraded after a £275,000 investment.

Romsey Rapids, which is operated by Places for People Leisure, has had new equipment put in and installed with the latest state-of-the-art facilities.

The gym houses new bikes with modern technology which were designed alongside British Cycling, Olympic cyclists and other sports scientists.

Other additions include a 'skill mill', which helps athletes achieve more power, speed and stamina.

Councillor Tony Ward said he welcomed the chance to try out the new equipment.

He said: "As someone who is in their 70s, I can attest to the fact that people of all ages and abilities will find something here to enjoy.

"I welcomed the opportunity to try out the new gym.

"This is just the latest of the many investments and upgrades to our leisure facilities across Test Valley, with much more to come."

Users of the gym have also been impressed by the additions.

Kelly Harris, 39, is 22-weeks pregnant.

Kelly said: "I have been a member for ten years, the new gym looks really impressive and I cannot wait to try out the new kit and exercises."

Member Peter Thompson, from Romsey, added: "The new gym is superb, I am a keen skier and golfer and the gym provides everything you need to get fir for the activities I enjoy.

"I have been coming to the gym three times a week for the last four years and this is a great transformation, the new kit is far superior."
