THIS month, Lockerley and East Dean WI group is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
On Tuesday, members of the WI group met at the White Horse hotel in Romsey for a celebration of reaching the centenary milestone.
With the country still at war, the institute was born on April 8 1918 when 33 ladies went to Lockerley School and were addressed by a travelling inspector of WIs.
There, the group was formed with a membership of 33 people. The committee was then promptly elected, along with a President, Vice President and Treasurer.
By June of that year, membership was large enough to for a split, and East Tytherley WI was born.
Lockerley meetings continued in the school until 1920, when Butts Green was built. The monthly meetings still take place there today.
The current membership met on Tuesday to mark the occasion, with some able to remember the 75th anniversary back in 1993.
