AROUND 50 tyres have been dumped outside a building of flats.

Just yards away from a children’s play area, the piles of tyres have been left in North Baddesley.

According to residents, police have been investigating, with Baddesley councillor Alan Dowden saying he is ‘appalled’ at the actions.

The tyres have been left at the back of St Bonifaces Court in Fleming Avenue, though it isn’t known how long they have been there for.

One resident said: “I came out for a cigarette on Monday night and police were down there having a look at them.

“I haven’t heard anything though – no great big lorry coming to dump them.

“It’s quite brave, it’s nothing but houses and flats around here.”

The police said the incident is a matter for Test Valley Borough Council to investigate.

It has left cllr Dowden appalled at the action, as he criticises those responsible for leaving it to the taxpayer to clean up.

He said: “People are leaving it to others to tidy up and it’s not okay.

“I am appalled at this action. It is now left to the tax payers to clean it up and will take nothing but time and money.

“They are doing it so they don’t have to pay anything, but it’s so close to people’s homes and where some of the children play.

There must be some way for the police, or whoever is in charge of looking into it, to find out who is responsible.

“I think the tyres are bald so it’s just a way for them to get rid of it for free – the only people it will cost is the residents.”

The tyres have been dumped in two piles, with the only vehicular access through a series of garages.

Cllr Dowden added: “I couldn’t believe they were so brazen as to do this, it’s very cowardly.

“I know why they would do it, but I just hope the police are able to catch them to deter other people from doing so.

“Everyone else has to pay the fees, but not everyone chooses to dump their goods.”

“Somebody in the area must have heard something – it would take a fair amount of manpower to dump those tyres where they are.”
