THIS week Parliament came back from recess with Home Office questions as the first piece of parliamentary business. I answered questions on a range of issues including Tier 2 visas, which a number of constituents have written to me about recently. It is crucially important, as we leave the EU, that we get the balance on immigration right, and later in the week I attend the Parliamentary Business and Legislation Committee to talk about forthcoming Home Office legislation.

I was pleased to be able to do some outreach with the Chinese community on Thursday evening, standing in for the Home Secretary who had to be abroad.

It has been a busy week for the Home Office with a number of debates, statutory instruments and the Home Secretary appearing in Brussels as well.

I am really looking forward to visiting another school in the north of my constituency on Friday morning.

These visits are a genuine highlight for me and I hope to be able to answer lots of questions from eager pupils as part of their ‘aspirations week’.

I really enjoyed my visit to Wherwell School a few weeks ago, with so many bright and engaging pupils, I am sure Barton Stacey Primary will be just as enthusiastic.

After a number of surgery appointments in Romsey I will be visiting a support group in Hampshire which helps asylum seekers in the UK. The volunteers in the group act as visitors, meeting individuals on a weekly basis to offer them guidance and I am keen to hear more about the work they do.

On Friday evening I hope to be able to attend the Solent University end of year degree shows to see the hard work put in by local fashion students.”
