LEADERS in Nursling and Rownhams have paid tribute to organisers of the community fair after revealing that thousands of residents attended following a cash injection.

Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams councillors provided hundreds of pounds towards the fair earlier this year. Now, having praised the work of organisers, ward member cllr Nigel Anderdon said more than 2,000 residents attended back in May.

The fair at Nursling and Rownhams Village Hall provided an opportunity for local groups and charities to meet with local people and showcase their offerings.

Nursling and Rownhams Fair organiser Peter Speirs, who is also the president of Romsey’s chamber of commerce, said: “This year’s Mayfair was the best yet. We had great support from the public over the bank holiday and the £500 councillor community grant really made a difference in terms of funding this traditional village event.”

The money came from Test Valley Borough Council’s community grant scheme, which helps to fund community-led initiatives.

Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams ward member Nigel Anderdon added: “On behalf of the ward councillors, I would like to say how proud we are to have supported the Nursling and Rownhams May Fair. We are delighted to donate towards this community event with £500 to ensure its continued success. Over 2,000 local residents attended, enjoying the fun and good weather.”

Among the features at the fair in May were Romsey Old Cadets and Romsey Ukelele Group. Other attractions included arena events, dance displays and a dog show, as well as a skate park competition.
